Tom Herman may not give away his plans for the Longhorns’ QB rotation against Oklahoma, but the first-year head coach did make one thing clear pertaining to sophomore QB Shane Buechele.

“Shane is healthy,” Herman said Thursday. “He went through practice, and still has an ankle brace on, but he’s moving around pretty good.”

Buechele was sidelined with a sprained ankle for the Longhorns first Big 12 home game against Kansas State last weekend. His absence was the third game Buechele has missed this season.

True freshman QB Sam Ehlinger stepped up in place of Buechele, when he led the Longhorns to a double-overtime win over the Wildcats to move Texas to 2-0 in Big 12 conference play. Though Ehlinger has shown up big in games this season, Herman was quick to debunk any talk of naming a starter due to his mistakes in the 2-OT thriller and Buechele’s questionable health.

“Sam made a lot of mistakes. There is no doubt he also played really well and tough and physical,” said Herman of Ehlinger’s game against K-State.

“But I don’t know what good it does me to tell Mike Stoops and Lincoln Riley what I feel about my quarterback situation.”

Texas faces No. 12 ranked Oklahoma Saturday in the 112th Red River Showdown.
