ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – Saturday’s spring finale was never in jeopardy for Mississippi State as the Bulldogs used a five-goal onslaught to down South Alabama in an impressive offensive display at the Orange Beach Sportsplex.

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – Saturday’s spring finale was never in jeopardy for Mississippi State as the Bulldogs used a five-goal onslaught to down South Alabama in an impressive offensive display at the Orange Beach Sportsplex.

The 5-0 win also marked MSU’s third shutout of the spring season as the Bulldogs closed the exhibition slate with a 4-0 record.

“Credit to South Alabama,” head coach Tom Anagnost said. “They have a very good team with solid players all over the field and will win a lot of games in the fall. Although we are disappointed with the mental mistakes we made in the game, we are very happy with the final execution and our great character displayed throughout the contest.”

Kiley Martens and Kelly Dorney were responsible for two goals each, with MaKayla Waldner also earning a score. Rhylee DeCrane played all 90 minutes at goal as she earned her third shutout of the season.

“Our finishing tonight was stupendous,” Anagnost said. “We are very excited to end the spring season with a win over a NCAA Tournament team. We scored a handful of goals, while also keeping a clean sheet. We are very proud of this performance and the effort this team has given this spring.”

Both teams entered Saturday’s contest unbeaten, but USA was no match for the Bulldog attack as MSU jumped out early in Orange Beach. The first score of the night was a team effort for the Bulldogs after a Khalyn Harmon cross found the head of Dorney, who then found the head of Waldner, who then found the foot of Martens for the score. Martens wouldn’t be finished there however, as the Bulldog ripped a shot from 25 yards out to give MSU the 2-0 lead before the break.

Out of halftime the Bulldogs would again pounce on the Jaguars early, this time the scorer would be Dorney after she sent a 40-yard laser into the back of the net for MSU’s third goal of the game. Much like Martens, Dorney wouldn’t be satisfied with just one goal on Saturday night as the Bulldog capitalized on a poor decision from USA after an errand pass back to the keeper was stolen away for an easy score.

Leading 4-0, MSU would add its final goal of the evening as Waldner found the back of the net after ripping a volley from 25 yards out.
