PLACENTIA— After a slow start in the first half, and using its third starting quarterback this season, Yorba Linda put together a ferocious ground attack Friday against El Dorado.

Yorba Linda rushed for 221 yards as it defeated El Dorado, 28-10, in a nonleague game Friday night at Valencia High.

“We got kind of the thunder-and-lightning going there, but they kind of took it upon themselves to make plays, and our offensive line stepped up too,” Yorba Linda coach Jeff Bailey said about running backs Jaydyn Webb and Jonah Slack.

Slack rushed for 93 yards and two touchdowns, and Webb rushed for 69 yards and also had two touchdowns for Yorba Linda (3-1).

El Dorado (2-2) ended the first half with a 10-7 lead.

One of the two touchdowns in the first half came from El Dorado running back Dillon Bass who ran for a 2-yard score in the second quarter.

El Dorado’s first points of the game came from Nathan Jaquez who kicked a 38-yard field goal in the first quarter, which closed the scoring gap to 7-3.

Earlier in the season, Yorba Linda lost starting quarterback Luke Wilson to a season-ending ACL injury to his knee. Last season, Wilson led the Mustangs to the CIF-SS Division 8 title.

Sophomore Nolan Doyle, who replaced Wilson as the Mustags’ starter, suffered a separated shoulder last week. The team’s coaches said he could be available to play next week.
