MSU's Adaloglou/Kelly Capture Doubles Title At Debbie Southern Fall Classic

Junior Caroline Kelly remains undefeated over the weekend with a combined 5-0 record.

GREENVILLE, S.C. – With the second day of the Debbie Southern Fall Classic completed, the Mississippi State women’s tennis team finished 1-1 in doubles and 2-3 in singles, with State’s duo of Magda Adaloglou and Caroline Kelly highlighting action by capturing the doubles title of their draw.

GREENVILLE, S.C. – With the second day of the Debbie Southern Fall Classic completed, the Mississippi State women’s tennis team finished 1-1 in doubles and 2-3 in singles, with State’s duo of Magda Adaloglou and Caroline Kelly highlighting action by capturing the doubles title of their draw.
 
“We definitely saw some improvement from everyone today,” head coach Daryl Greenan said. “Magda and Caroline played with incredible energy, capping off a perfect weekend in doubles. Sara and Khrystyna played much better today in their close doubles match. I feel like everyone is competing well and I think we are ready to finish strong tomorrow.”
 
Saturday started off with the freshman Adaloglou and junior Kelly rallying from a 6-3 deficit to defeat Texas’ tandem of Chelsea Crovetti and Katie Poluta 8-6 to claim the doubles title in Flight 4.
  
MSU’s tandem of sophomore Sara Lizariturry and senior Khrystyna Vozniak fell to Florida State’s Nandini Das and Ariana Rahmanparast on Saturday in the seventh place match in a close 8-7 battle. 
 
In Flight 1, State’s duo of juniors Janina Braun and Anastasia Rentouli will face North Carolina’s Makenna Jones and Chloe Ouellet-Pizer Sunday in the third place match of that bracket. 
 
Singles proceeded after the doubles session was completed.
 
State’s newcomer Adaloglou notched a straight-set victory against Ohio State’s Shiori Fukuda 7-5, 6-3 Saturday in the consolation first round for Flight 1. She will face Ole Miss’ 91st-ranked Anna Vrbenska Sunday in the consolation finals. In Flight 2, MSU’s Rentouli fell to Ohio State’s Olivia Sneed 6-3, 6-3 Saturday in the main draw semifinals of that draw. Rentouli will match up with Wake Forest’s Eliza Omirou for the third place match Sunday.
 
State’s Braun was outlasted by Florida State’s Nandini Das in three sets – 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 – in Flight 3’s consolation first round. Braun won by default in the seventh place match against North Carolina’s Chloe Ouellet-Pizer. In Flight 5, MSU’s Lizariturry fell to Vanderbilt’s Summer Dvorak 7-6(1), 6-1 in Saturday’s semifinals. She will match up with Tennessee’s Johanna Silva on Sunday in the third place match.
 
In Flight 9, MSU’s Kelly notched a straight-set victory against Vanderbilt’s Payton Robinette 6-3, 6-2 on Saturday. She will face Texas’ Chelsea Crovetti in the final round of the round robin on Sunday. With her two victories Saturday, Kelly remained the only undefeated Bulldog on the weekend, now 5-0 overall.
