Mixed news for Michigan on IMG 4-star recruits Cesar Ruiz, Jhamon Ausbon

June 27, 2016

ANN ARBOR – Michigan made the cut for one top IMG Academy 2017 prospect but missed out on another.

Cesar Ruiz, a four-star center from IMG in Bradenton, Fla., included Michigan in a top eight he released via Twitter on Sunday. Jhamon Ausbon, a four-star wide receiver from IMG who had Michigan in his final four, announced his commitment to LSU on Saturday night.

Ruiz released a top eight of LSU, Alabama, Michigan, Florida, Oklahoma, Florida State, North Carolina and Auburn.  At 6-foot-3 and 315 pounds, he is the No. 1 center and No. 134 player overall in the 2017 class, according to 247 Sports Composite rankings. Earlier this month, Ruiz said that he no longer had a favorite after previously having Michigan, Alabama and North Carolina tied at the top of a top 12 from April.

Ausbon on June 7 released a final four of LSU, Texas A&M, Auburn and Michigan. At 6-2 and 217 pounds, he is the No. 11 receiver and No. 67 player overall in the 2017 class. The former Baylor commit transferred from St. Thomas High School in Houston to IMG after his junior season.

Ruiz and Ausbon are among multiple 2017 IMG players Michigan is pursuing. The list includes five-star linebacker Dylan Moses, four-star linebacker Jordan Anthony, four-star guard Robert Hainsey and four-star safety Grant Delpit. Michigan has 16 players committed to its 2017 class, which ranks No. 4 in the nation, according to 247 Sports.
