Former Duke point guard Derryck Thornton has decided to transfer to USC.
Thornton selected USC over Kansas. He averaged 7.1 points and 2.8 assists in 26.0 minutes last season at Duke.
Under NCAA rules, Thornton must sit out a season and will have three years of eligibility.
Thornton will not solve the Trojans’ depth problems for next season. USC has just nine players on scholarship following the departure of six players, including point guard Julian Jacobs and forward Nikola Jovanovic, who each entered the NBA draft.
Minnesota forward Charles Buggs, who would be immediately eligible next season as a graduate transfer, is making an official visit to USC this weekend.
