BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ginger Brown-Lemm wanted her Mississippi State women’s golf team to show toughness and resilience in Sunday’s final round of the SEC Championship in Birmingham, Ala.

In her final time playing in the event, senior Jessica Peng did just that, firing a 2-under 70 that helped lead the Bulldogs to an 11th-place finish with a 4-over 292.

“The girls really showed their resilience and toughness, MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said.  “We posted 13 birdies throughout the day and have put ourselves in position to be selected for an NCAA Regional, which will be announced Thursday at 10 a.m. on the Golf Channel. We will continue to work hard in preparation for the postseason.”

Peng wanted to finish strong after firing a 76 on Saturday, and she immediately showed Sunday was a different day as she fired two birdies on the front nine en route to making the turn with a 1-under 35. She carded a birdie on her second hole of the back nine, a challenging par-5 11th, and added another on her final hole to finish the tournament tied for 25th.

Fellow senior Ji Eun Baik played the front nine even, and countered a double bogey and bogey on the back nine with birdies on Nos. 11 and 16 to finish her day 1-over 73 and tied for 33rd for the championship.

After finding the going tough at Greystone Golf and Country Club on Saturday, freshman Teri Doss showed her resiliency by littering her scorecard with a team-high five birdies en route to ending her round with a 74 that tied her for 59th for the weekend.

After firing a 73 on Saturday, sophomore Katie Holt shot a 75 on Sunday to finish the championship tied for 42nd. Holt made the turn at even par before going on to the 3-over finish.

Ela Grimwood closed her first SEC Championship on a strong note, playing her five holes at 1-under-par en route to ending the day with a 76 and in 62nd position.

Mississippi State waits to hear its NCAA Tournament postseason destiny when selections are revealed on Thursday, April 27.
