Biff Poggi reportedly leaving Michigan for prep job in Baltimore

June 16, 2017

ANN ARBOR — Michigan staffer Biff Poggi — the father of Michigan senior fullback Henry Poggi — is reportedly on the move.

Per a report from PressBoxOnline, Poggi — Michigan’s special advisor/associate head coach — is returning to the prep ranks in Baltimore.

The site reported Friday that Poggi will be the new head coach at St. Frances Academy in Baltimore.

Poggi left his previous high school head coaching job at Gilman in Baltimore after 19 seasons to work with Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines’ program in 2016. He was 135-43 during his time at Gilman.

Perhaps Poggi’s biggest task during his time at Michigan was working behind the scenes to organize and facilitate the program’s trip to Rome this past spring.

Harbaugh and Poggi began working on the trip last summer, and Poggi did plenty of work to make sure the trip turned from idea into reality. Poggi used his relationship with Baltimore attorney Rick Schaeffer to help make everything happen, as Schaeffer was one of the biggest behind-the-scenes facilitators in making sure everything went off without issue.

“(Poggi) originally put the hotel down on his own credit card, before it was approved by the University of Michigan,” Harbaugh said this past winter. “Biff Poggi put his personal credit card down. I told him I’d put mine down with him. Then when it came time to do it, I was like ‘oh, man, I can’t find my wallet there, Biff.’ But no, the two of us said ‘if it doesn’t get approved then we’ll just take our family and friends to Rome.’

“He’s a guy that’s incredible (for us).”
