WVU Closes Regular Season Saturday

April 28, 2017

MORGANTOWN, W.Va – The West Virginia University rowing team will wrap up the regular season by traveling to Philadelphia to take on Temple and Delaware on April 29.

Saturday’s race will take place on the Delaware River, with all boats launching from the Temple boathouse.

WVU will face Delaware in the first racing session on Saturday. The Mountaineers and the Blue Hens will each have five crews competing. The second varsity four boats will open the event for both teams, when they launch at 10:10 a.m. The third varsity eight crews will launch at 10:40, with the varsity four, second varsity eight, and varsity eight boats following in 20-minute intervals.

The Mountaineers will then take a short break before facing host Temple in the second session of the contest. Again, WVU will have the second varsity four, third varsity eight, varsity four, second varsity eight, and varsity eight boats racing.

Afternoon racing is slated to begin at 12:20 p.m., with the next four events starting every 20 minutes. The varsity eight crew will close the event for WVU, with racing set for 1:40 p.m.

The Mountaineers enter Saturday’s contest after winning three event finals last Sunday at the George Mason Invitational.

“Last weekend our young team made progress in the area of racing maturity and I’m looking for more of the same this weekend,” coach Jimmy King said. “While some of our crews raced Delaware at last weekend’s invitational, this will be our one and only look at Temple this season. Regardless of the circumstances we know that the key to our success starts with a keen internal focus.”

Due to this weekend’s NFL Draft in Philadelphia, most of the primary routes to the boathouse have been closed. For fans planning on attending the race, information on traffic can be found here.
