Watch Jim Harbaugh swing for the fences in home run derby

May 5, 2016

ANN ARBOR – Jim Harbaugh’s workout with the Michigan softball team on Wednesday wasn’t enough to get him a victory.

Competing in the Michigan Softball Academy’s Home Run Derby against former Michigan quarterback Rick Leach on Thursday at Alumni Field in Ann Arbor, Harbaugh failed to hit a home run in 15 swings. Leach, who played 10 seasons of Major League Baseball, hit one homer to right field to claim victory. Harbaugh’s best swing was a line drive off the top of the left field wall.

Harbaugh and Leach were both competing to raise money for charity. The Michigan Softball Academy, now in its seventh year, raises awareness in the fight against breast cancer as well as funds for the American Cancer Society. As of 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, the academy had raised $129,514 this year. The derby had raised $20,635.
