2016 IWLCA Division I All-Region Teams

May 16, 2016

GRAND LAKE, Colo. — The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) named five USC players to the 2016 All West/Midwest Region Teams on Friday, May 13.

The Women of Troy put four players on the first team including 2016 MPSF Player of the Year senior defender Courtney Tarleton (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood HS), 2015 MPSF Player of the Year junior attacker Michaela Michael (Hillsborough, Calif./Menlo School), senior midfielder Amanda Johansen (Glen Head, N.Y./North Shore HS), and sophomore goalie Gussie Johns (Washington, D.C./St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School). Senior attacker Caroline deLyra (Brightwaters, N.Y./Bay Shore Senior HS) was named to the second team.

The five USC selections bring the program’s total to 13 all-time IWLCA All-Region certificates; six first team and seven second team among five different players. Michael is the Trojans’ only All-American (third team) selected in 2015.

The IWLCA named 128 student-athletes to one of the Division I All-Region teams. Each student-athlete is now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, announced on Wednesday, May 18. The IWLCA will honor All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American banquet on Saturday, June 4, at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pa.

Tarleton and Johansen are each four-time all-region selections. Tarleton makes her first appearance on the All-West/Midwest first team while Johansen makes her second (2013). Michael repeats her first-team selection from 2015 while deLyra makes her second-career all-region team after being chosen in 2014. Johns is a first-time all-region honoree.

The fifth-seeded Women of Troy (20-0) advanced the furthest any Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) team has ever gone in the NCAA tournament following a 14-8 win over No. 9-ranked Stanford on Sunday (May 15). The Trojans pushed ahead into the quarterfinals where they will face fourth-seeded Syracuse (18-5) in at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, N.Y., on Saturday, May 21, at 3 p.m. ET (noon PT). The game will be carried live on ESPN3.
