No. 2 USC Ties For First At NCAA Stanford Regional, Advances To NCAA Final
Chan ties for fourth, Then ties for ninth as USC claims first at regional for seventh straight time.
Tiffany Chan tied for fourth and joined junior Gabriella Then and freshman Robynn Ree with final-round 71s as No. 2 USC tied for first at the 2016 NCAA Stanford Regional on Saturday (May 7) at the Stanford G.C. and advanced to the NCAA Championships final for the 19th straight year.
The tie for first extends USC’s record NCAA regional win streak to seven and its NCAA best overall total to 12. It is also Troy’s sixth first-place this season and builds on its recent Pac-12 title in April. This year’s six-win season trails only the seven victories in 2013 and nine in 2014.
USC next turns its attention to the NCAA Championships, where it will go for the program’s fourth team title at the Eugene (Ore.) C.C. May 20-25.
The Trojans (287-284-285) and host Stanford (289-280-287) both finished at 4-over 856. Chan and Stanford’s Mariah Stackhouse each had putts on 18 that could’ve given both teams out-right wins, but both missed.
Chan registered her fifth top 14 finish this season with her tie for fourth at 2-under 211 (71-69-71). She was even going out and got to 2-under today after an eagle on 12. She was still 4-under before her double bogey on 18.
Then tied for ninth at 2-over 215 (76-68-71), her third top 10 this year and her second in a row. She had three birdies on the day.
Freshman Robynn Ree took 13th at 3-over 216 (71-74-71), her seventh top 20 this year, senior Kyung Kim tied for 15th at 5-over 218 (72-73-73) and junior Karen Chung tied for 50th at 12-over 225 (73-80-72).
