Junior Tiffany Chan and freshman Robynn Ree earned WGCA second team honors while junior Karen Chung was tabbed an honorable mention selection this week while Chung joined senior Kyung Kim and junior Gabriella Then as Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention picks announced Friday.
Chan and Ree finished the season as co-leaders in stroke average (71.97), tying for eighth on USC’s all-time season chart. Chan posted five top 10 finishes, including three in a row – all in the postseason – to close the year, and had seven top 14 results to go with five rounds in the 60s. Chan tied for fourth at the NCAA Stanford Regional at 2-under 211 (71-69-71), tied for 10th at the Pac-12 Championships at 3-under 213 (67-72-74) and led USC at the NCAA Championships in 10th at 2-under 286 (71-71-74-70).
Ree finished the season with four top 10 finishes and eight in the top 17. She led USC in three of 10 events and won her first collegiate title with a 4-under 212 (70-71-71) at The Gold Rush in Seal Beach, Calif. She had four rounds in the 60s, and finished the season 8-2 in match play action.
Chung finished third on the squad with a career best stroke average of 72.29 which tied for the 14th best season effort on USC’s career chart. She had four top 10s on the season, including a win at the season-opening ANNIKA Intercollegiate at 12-under 204 (68-68-68) and a tie for second at the Windy City Collegiate at 7-under 209 (68-71-70). She finished with a team-high-tying and career best six rounds in the 60s. She now has 13 career rounds in the 60s, tied for sixth-most ever at USC.
With the newest WGCA honors, 20 of USC 20th-year Head Coach Andrea Gaston’s golfers have earned a combined 45 All-American honors and the Trojans now feature a combined 28 golfers who have earned All-American status.
Kim, who graduated earlier this month with a degree in business administration, earned Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention honors for the third year in a row while Then earned it for the second straight season. It was a first-time honor for Chung.
