Hi, it’s me, Marla Jo, your columnist and deals maven. I’m on vacation this week, so no Cheapo Travel, but look for it again next week. If you know a great deal, let me know at email@example.com. You can also find me at Deals Diva on Facebook and Twitter. And don’t forget to read my humor columns on Wednesdays in the Register.

If you like to eat at Del Taco, you’re going to want to join their “Raving Fan” email loyalty club. You’ll get a coupon good for two chicken tacos just for signing up, a premium shake on your birthday, special deals throughout the year. Learn more at DelTaco.com.
HALF PRICE DEALS
Do you know about YipIt.com? This website aggregates half price deals from sites such as Groupon, Living Social and the like, and puts them together so you don’t have to search each one. If you click on the link, it then takes you from the YipIt website directly to the discounter page. I particularly like to use this when I travel, for example, if you’re heading to San Francisco, you might want to search out restaurant and activity deals there. You do have to sign up and give them your email address.
You can save a fortune by using the library’s free online resources instead of paying for subscriptions! If you don’t know how to access public library services such as Overdrive ebooks, Zinio (bills itself as “The World’s Largest Newsstand”) or Hoopla (which streams movies, documentaries, music and audio books for free!) they’ll teach you how to do it. Appointments are available at the Garden Grove main library on Thursdays at 11 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. for a half-hour individual tutorial that will be paced to your own level. Call 714-530-0711 or visit the service desk to register, and, if you’re not in Garden Grove, check with your library and see if they offer the same thing. Location: 11200 Stanford Ave.,Garden Grove.
If you live in Santa Ana, stop by the Santa Ana Zoo today, July 16, for free admission. Visit the “Home of 50 monkeys” and see all the animals. As many as four people get free admission per household. Show proof of address such as a utility bill or your driver’s license (residents only, it can’t be your business address). The zoo is free every third Sunday for all city residents. Learn more: santaanazoo.org
Here’s a little advance on a freebie for you: All national parks and monuments will be free to visit on Friday, Aug. 25 in honor of the National Park Service’s 101st birthday. If you decide to visit one, I’d suggest going at sunrise, because not only will the weather be cool, but you won’t hit any crowds. Later in the day, these “free days” get pretty mobbed. Enjoy! This is for fishing fiends only, and I know you’re out there: You can watch a free preview of the “World Fishing Network” on Dish from now until Aug. 3, channel 394. And I like mine with Cajun seasoning, thanks. I saw this on FreePreview.TV, so check them out.
