ANN ARBOR – Alex Leatherwood is one of the top recruits in the nation and verbally committed to Alabama, but apparently Michigan and coach Jim Harbaugh are still on his radar.
“Very much interested,” Leatherwood, a 2017 offensive tackle from Booker T. Washington High School in Pensacola, Fla., told Scout.com of Michigan. “I like Coach Harbaugh and the direction that the program is going in. He is a great coach that knows what he’s doing and I have talked to him.
“(He has told me) basically that I can make an impact on helping win a national championship and that he wants me to be a part of the program.”
Leatherwood, 6-foot-6 and 315 pounds, is a five-star recruit listed as the No. 7 offensive tackle and No. 27 overall recruit by 247 Sports Composite rankings. He committed to Alabama on June 2, 2015 and holds 12 offers, including Michigan, Florida, Florida State and LSU. Leatherwood told Scout.com he plans on visiting Michigan either in the summer or on an official visit.
Michigan has 12 players committed to its 2017 class, including four-star offensive tackle Ja’Raymond Hall from Oak Park.
