Nation’s No. 2 RB Cam Akers puts Michigan in his top 10

ANN ARBOR – Michigan already has three running backs committed for the 2017 class but is still in the running for one of the top backfield prospects in the nation.

Cam Akers, a five-star recruit from Clinton High School in Clinton, Miss., released a top 10 on Twitter Wednesday afternoon and listed Michigan, Auburn, Alabama, Florida State, Ohio State, Cal, LSU, Tennessee, Ole Miss and Georgia.

“As of now these are the teams that I will be taking a closer look at over the next few months,” Akers tweeted.

Akers, 5-foot-11 and 212 pounds, is the No. 2 running back and No. 15 player overall in the 2017 class, according to 247 Sports Composite rankings. As a junior, he played quarterback for Clinton and racked up monster numbers. Akers passed for 2,331 yards and 20 touchdowns and rushed for 1,418 and 16 touchdowns.

Michigan has 12 players already verbally committed to the 2017 class, including O’Maury Samuels, a four-star running back from Los Lunas High School in Los Lunas, N.M., A.J. Dillon, a three-star running back from Lawrence Academy in Groton, Mass., and Kurt Taylor, a three-star running back from Newton High School in Covington, Ga.
