MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team completed the third day of competition at the 2016 NCAA East Prelims on Saturday at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida.
“I am very proud of these eight young ladies,” said coach Sean Cleary. “Most of them have been competing since last August and here we are at the NCAA East Prelim Championships 10 months later still competing. Six of the eight girls will be back with eligibility next year. Our plan will be to build on this momentum and bring 10 next spring. It’s time to rest, recover and rebuild.”
The lone Mountaineer in today’s field events, McNeil competed in the triple jump, placing 30th with a mark of 12.55 meters. The student-athletes with the top-12 best marks advanced to the finals of the National Championships.
In the track events, Forsey raced in the 5,000-meter run, placing 17th place with a time of 16:27.89. The top-five finishers in each heat, as well as the next two fastest times, advanced to the finals of the National Championships.
The event marked the conclusion of the 2016 outdoor season for West Virginia.
