He rolled in a tricky 4-footer.
It’s an old joke, but it’s apropos given how Lefty closed his round.
Mickelson’s problems began when he pushed his approach shot into the creek next to the green. After taking a drop, he chipped over the green, hit his fifth shot back across the green and into the fringe, and after finally reaching the putting surface with his sixth shot he two-putted for his highest score on the hole.
It’s become a familiar occurrence for Mickelson on No. 18. In 51 trips down the 18th hole in competition, he is 21 over par. He’s recorded just four birdies there in 13 starts in Charlotte.
“It’s a very awkward shot for me off the tee because if I happen to lose it a little bit left, obviously it’s going to go in the water,” Mickelson said of the 18th hole on Friday.
