Michigan’s Donovan Peoples-Jones returns punt 79 yards for 1st career TD

September 16, 2017

ANN ARBOR – It appears Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh made the right decision putting Donovan Peoples-Jones back on punt return on Saturday against Air Force.

The freshman receiver scored the first touchdown of his career — and the first touchdown of the game – early in the third quarter, returning a punt 79 yards to the end zone at the 13:51 mark.

The score gave Michigan a 16-6 lead before the Falcons answered with a touchdown 1:57 later.

Peoples-Jones, a five-star recruit out of Detroit Cass Tech, was replaced by Grant Perry last week after he botched a couple of punt returns, one resulting in a fumble that bounced off teammate Benjamin St-Juste.

However, Harbaugh said Monday the coaching staff reviewed the film and found that it wasn’t all Peoples-Jones’ fault. Harbaugh said the true freshman was going to get another chance, and Peoples-Jones made the most of it Saturday.

He also had his first career reception Saturday — a 37-yarder in the second quarter.
