Michigan makes cut for top-20 safety CJ Avery

ANN ARBOR – CJ Avery is being pursued by the top programs in the nation and has Michigan among his finalists.

Avery, a 2017 four-star safety from Grenada High School in Mississippi, released a top 10 Monday via Twitter that included Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Louisville, Tennessee, Michigan, Auburn, Clemson, Cal and Alabama.

At 6-foot-1 and 196 pounds, Avery is the No. 19 safety and No. 205 player overall in the 2017 class, according to 247 Sports Composite rankings. As a junior, he had 69 tackles, including five for a loss, five interceptions and a fumble recovery.

Michigan has 13 players already committed to its 2017 class, including one safety in three-star J’Marick Woods from Alabama.
