Michigan baseball bounced from Big Ten Tournament by Ohio State

May 28, 2016

The Michigan baseball team was unable to beat Ohio State in the regular season and the Wolverines’ woes against the Buckeyes got them bounced from the conference tournament.

No. 4 seed Ohio State (40-18-1) beat fifth-seeded Michigan (36-21) 11-4 on Saturday in the losers’ bracket of the double-elimination Big Ten Tournament in a game that was postponed by thunderstorms Friday night. Ohio State, which swept Michigan in a three-game series in the regular season, beat Michigan 8-3 in Wednesday’s first round.

Michigan, the defending Big Ten Tournament champion, will hope to get an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Baseball America’s May 18 projection had Michigan as a No. 2 seed in the tournament.

Ohio State will play Michigan State Saturday night in a tournament semifinal.
