SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Oregon women’s tennis players Marlou Kluiving and Alyssa Tobita were named to the Pac-12 All-Academic Team, the conference announced Thursday.
Kluiving, a junior, earned her second straight recognition with a 3.92 GPA in human physiology to make the all-academic first team. As a sophomore in her first year of eligibility, Tobita was named to the second team with a 3.67 GPA in general sciences.
Oregon’s active singles wins leader, Kluiving racked up a 19-13 overall record this season, while going 14-17 in doubles. Kluiving was big for the Ducks in dual action with a 12-6 mark in dual singles matches.
Tobita turned in a stellar sophomore season in 2016. Sophomore Alyssa Tobita has been on fire since the start of dual action in January. After going 12-0 to start the spring, Tobita posted impressive 16-4 mark in dual matches. The Mililani, Hawaii, native was 21-9 overall in singles this season, and teamed up with Nia Rose to go 12-6 in doubles to reach 37 wins together for their careers to become the second-winningest duo in Oregon history.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor on their respective team.
In head coach Alison Silverio’s second year at the helm, Oregon finished the season at 11-11, and posted its best start in conference play since the 2004 season.
