BROOKLYN, MI — On Thursday, June 9, Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh was in New Jersey delivering a commencement address. On Friday, he was back in Michigan for the Sound Mind Sound Body camp in Detroit.
On Sunday, he was spotted taking in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series FireKeepers 400 on top of Denny Hamlin’s pit box at Michigan International Speedway.
The well-traveled coach wasn’t the only Michigan football figure in attendance as a handful of Detroit Lions offensive linemen were spotted at the race. Lions center Gabe Ikard told the Detroit Free Press that he arranged the get together with help from the Love’s Travel Stops race team.
“Some people question it like ‘How are you guys doing it, how are you holding up, it’s got to be such a grind,'” Harbaugh said at the Sound Mind Sound Body camp. “Grind? No. … This is what we love to do. We love to coach and we love to teach.”
General Manager Bob Quinn, defensive end Ziggy Ansah, A’Shawn Robinson and linebacker Antwione Williams were also spotted at MIS by the Twitterverse. The Lions drafted Robinson in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
“I’m always down with doing something with the O-line and have a good time,” Ikard told the Free Press. “We just decided if we had the opportunity, might as well. This is all about O-line bonding and just enjoying a nice Sunday.”
