Fraley's Solo Shot Helps Baseball Defeat the Irish

SOUTH BEND, Ind.– Centerfielder Jake Fraley took a ball over the right field wall to put LSU atop Notre Dame, 1-0, in the top of the 11th inning at Frank Eck Stadium. 

In what was supposed to be a seven-inning contest, the Tigers needed four extra frames to get a run on the board. 

Senior starter John Valek III threw 4.1 shutout innings and allowed three hits. The left-hander struck out five and walked two in his outing. 

Sophomore Austin Bain entered in the ninth inning and fired two shutout innings to earn the win and improve to 4-0 on the season. The right-hander allowed one hit, walked two and struck out one in his nine batters faced. 

Game 2 of the midweek series against the Fighting Irish is set to take place at 6:20 p.m. CT. The game is available online only through ESPN3, accessible through Watch ESPN and the WatchESPN app. The second game is scheduled for seven innings.
