Catching Up with Anja Martin

June 15, 2016

Over the next few months, will visit with returning West Virginia University women’s basketball players to recap the previous season and preview the upcoming year. This week’s edition features sophomore guard Anja Martin from San Antonio, Texas.

Q: Describe your first year adjusting to WVU.
A: The biggest adjustment would be getting used to the pace of the game. Also, I would say the first couple of weeks hitting the weight room was hard.

Q: What did you learn during your freshman season?
A: I learned that I have lot more room to grow. I need to push past some of the things I wouldn’t think I’d be able to do and I am working toward that goal.

Q: What are some of your goals to work on this offseason?
A: Right now, I am working on my ball handling and shooting skills. Trying to handle the ball better and dribble in traffic. The coaches gave me a lot of pointers this offseason. They’ve encouraged me throughout the season and especially during the offseason. They are talking to me and instructing me on what I need to do to improve my game. I am hoping to improve on those skills in individual drills this summer.

Q: Have you picked out a major and if so, what career path are you thinking about pursuing?

A: Right now, I am considering majoring in broadcast journalism. I am not sure whether I’d want to be behind the scenes or in front of the camera. I am still considering my options.

Q: What do you like about West Virginia?
A: I like the great family atmosphere. With the new girls here, we have already started to click with them and make them part of our family. West Virginia is a fantastic place and I love being part of the Mountaineer family.
