Here is Jared Lloyd’s look at the BYU-Wisconsin matchups, including his prediction for the final score for Saturday’s game at LaVell Edwards Stadium:
BYU offense vs. Wisconsin defense
The Cougar offense showed a couple of flickers of life against Utah, but is still very much a work in progress. Wisconsin’s defense is tough and physical, meaning BYU will have a tough time moving the ball.
Wisconsin offense vs. BYU defense
The Badgers have been playing classic Wisconsin football as they have pounded it with the run game and made key plays through the air. The BYU defense hasn’t surrendered too many points, but has given up quite a few yards.
There is a reason the Badgers always seem to reload and are right in the hunt in the Big 10. Paul Chryst and his staff do a great job and have their guys ready to play. BYU’s coaching staff is still struggling to find answers.
This will be a home game for the Cougars, plus it could be a trap game for Wisconsin, since the Badgers start conference play next week. It’s never easy for a team to travel west and BYU might be able to get some breaks.
Key Matchup: BYU defensive line vs. Wisconsin offensive line
The Badgers have prided themselves for years in their ability to get a big push up front and open up holes for their running backs. BYU’s defense hasn’t been shredded, but both LSU and Utah had success on the ground.
The Badgers were impressive against Utah State and solid against Florida Atlantic. BYU has yet to come anywhere close to reaching its potential in any phase of the game and it seems unlikely that will change dramatically against Wisconsin.
