Marc Huberman threw five scoreless innings in relief.
LOS ANGELES –The Trojan offense once again met a hot Oregon State pitcher, this time it was Bryce Fehmel, and the Trojans never recovered from a four-run second inning, as the Trojans fell 4-1 to the Beavers in the rubber match of the series.
The Trojans (25-27, 13-14 Pac-12) were held to just one run on six hits in the loss. The Beavers tallied four runs on just six hits, helped by four walks in the second inning as they drove home all their runs that inning on three hits off starter Mitch Hart (Granite Bay, Calif./Granite Bay HS), who only went 1.2 innings in the start.
From there on out it was senior Marc Huberman (Los Angeles, Calif./Hamilton HS) who shined, going five scoreless, striking out four while walking three. He kept the Trojans in the game, but the bats were unable to get going.
The Trojans plated one run on an error in the eighth inning to pull within three, 4-1.
Senior Brooks Kriske (Palm Desert, Calif./Palm Desert HS) closed things out for the Trojans, going 2.1 innings, allowing just one run with two strikeouts and two walks.
Jeremy Martinez (Fountain Valley, Calif./Mater Dei HS) led the Trojans at the plate with 3 hits, while David Oppenheim (Mercer Island, Wash./College of the Canyons), Timmy Robinson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View HS) and David Edson (Las Vegas, Nev./Faith Lutheran HS) each had one hit.
Max Engelberkt threw 1.2 innings in relief for his 11th save of the year.
The Trojans celebrated nine Trojans playing their last game at Dedeaux Field – Turner Clouse, Kyle Davis, Brooks Kriske, Marc Huberman, David Oppenheim, Reggie Southall, AJ Ramirez, Timmy Robinson and Brent Wheatley.
The Trojans will be back in action on Tuesday, May 24 at 6 p.m. PT at Cal State Fullerton.
