ANN ARBOR – Michigan is a relative newcomer to recruiting Jhamon Ausbon, but that didn’t keep the Wolverines from being one of his finalists.
Ausbon, a 2017 four-star wide receiver from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., released his top four college choices via Twitter Tuesday night and listed, in no order, LSU, Texas A&M, Auburn and Michigan. He has 17 total offers, but didn’t receive one from Michigan until April 21.
At 6-foot-2 and 217 pounds, Ausbon is the No. 10 receiver and No. 66 player overall in the 2017 class, according to 247 Sports Composite rankings. The former Baylor commit transferred from St. Thomas High School in Houston to IMG after his junior season. He earned an invitation to The Nike The Opening Finals, July 5-10 in Beaverton, Ore., for the top prospects in the nation.
Ausbon is one of multiple 2017 IMG players Michigan is pursuing. The list includes five-star linebacker Dylan Moses, four-star linebacker Jordan Anthony, four-star guard Robert Hainsey, four star center Cesar Ruiz and four-star safety Grant Delpit. Ruiz, who initially had Michigan among his three favorites, clarified Monday that he’s considering all the schools he announced in his top 12 from April, as well as others, equally moving forward.
Michigan has 13 players committed to its 2017 class but has yet to land a wide receiver. However, the Wolverines are in the running for some of the top pass-catching prospects in the nation. Within the last week, five-star receiver Tyjon Lindsey put Michigan in his top nine and four-star receiver Nico Collins had the Wolverines in his top seven. Michigan is also pursuing five-star receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones from Detroit Cass Tech.
